The Japanese government on Monday (Nov. 12, 2018) announced that a Japanese company has released a novelization of the original 1989 novel The Jokers, which is based on a popular Japanese manga.
In an update on its website, Tokyo-based company Akeno Kobo said the new novel, titled The Joker, will be published in March 2019.
The novelization, which was written by Jigoro Kishimoto and published by Yen Press in Japan in 2012, centers on a teenage girl named Keiko who has been chosen by a mysterious “boyfriend” to be his lover.
The book follows Keiko’s journey from her first kiss to a final, dramatic showdown with the mysterious “Joker.”
“The Jokers are the best-selling novel in Japan,” the company said.
“The story has been translated into over 80 languages.
This novel is an adaptation of a Japanese manga and a modernized version of the manga is a classic in Japan, and this novel is a perfect opportunity for us to continue to enhance the story and bring it to an audience outside of Japan,” it added.
